Information for Physicians (Click Here)

 SYMPTOMS:
 - Fever
 - Sore Throat
 - Cough
 - Lethargy
 - Lack of Appetite

TIPS ON PREVENTION:
 - Proper hand hygiene with soap and water or with alcohol based hand sanitizer
 - Cover cough and sneezes with tissue or sleeve
 - Avoid contact with ill persons
 - Routinely disinfect high touch surfaces
 - Don’t share phones or cell phones
 - If you are experiencing symptoms, you should stay home except when seeking medical attention

DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT:
 - Influenza can be diagnosed with a nasal swab.  The H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu) can only be confirmed by sending a specimen to a state laboratory.
 - The Hannibal Regional Hospital Laboratory is prepared to take nasal swabs, can diagnose the type of flu a person has been infected with    and can rule out infection with the H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu).
 - If a person is tested positive for influenza, there are medications available by prescription to treat the illness regardless of if it is the   H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu) or the regular seasonal flu.
