What is Pain Management?
Pain management is a medical specialty focused on the diagnosis and treatment of pain and related disorders with the application of interventional techniques in managing various types of pain. Focusing on chronic pain rather than acute pain, it can work independently or in conjunction with other treatment.
Acute pain is of sudden onset and is usually the result of an injury, surgery, or medical illness and often goes away with the healing process. Chronic pain persists for weeks or months and is usually associated with an underlying condition, such as arthritis. The severity of chronic pain can be mild, moderate, or severe.
The primary goal of pain treatment is to return the patient to optimal function.
Pain Management Techniques
Interventional pain management techniques are minimally invasive procedures which may include a single approach or a combination of medications, therapies and procedures. The degree of pain varies from person to person so each treatment plan will be customized to your specific needs.
